Use your own words (Terminology)

Popinz is a management platform for any organisation that gives classes and looks after members — a school, yes, but just as much a sports club, an association, a circus school, a conservatoire, a training centre or a workshop. The words on screen should be yours, not ours.

The Terminology screen lets you rename the 15 everyday words the software uses. Change student to member, teacher to coach, room to studio, and the new word appears everywhere — screens, lists, emails and PDF exports alike.

Popinz — the Terminology screen

Where to find it

Settings → Terminology.

Only the direction and the administrative staff can open this screen. Teachers, members and parents or guardians see the result of your choices, never the setting itself.

The 15 words you can change

For each one you set the singular and the plural, because the software uses both.

Concrete examples

Circus school — student becomes apprentice, attendee becomes trainer, course becomes workshop, location becomes ring, group becomes troupe.

Sports club — student becomes licence holder, attendee becomes coach, course becomes training, location becomes gym, school becomes club.

Conservatoire — student becomes pupil, attendee becomes professor, course becomes lesson, location becomes rehearsal room, subject becomes discipline.

Training centre — student becomes trainee, attendee becomes trainer, group becomes cohort, registration becomes enrolment, pedagogy report becomes assessment record.

Association — student becomes member, attendee becomes volunteer, school becomes association, course becomes activity, registration becomes membership.

How the screen works

  1. Pick the language you want to set up at the top of the screen. Each language is configured separately — see below.
  2. Every field is already filled in with the word currently in use, so you always see what you are replacing.
  3. Change only the words you care about. Leaving a field empty keeps the default word — you are never forced to retype the whole list.
  4. Save. The change is immediate and applies to your organisation only; other organisations on Popinz keep their own words.

One setting per language

Your words are stored per language. If your organisation works in French and English, you set the French words once and the English words once. Members then see the right word in whichever language they use Popinz.

Honest limitation: terminology is available in 52 of the 68 languages Popinz supports. The language selector on this screen only offers those 52 — the other 16 languages keep the standard Popinz words for now.

It really applies everywhere

The words you choose are not a cosmetic label on one screen. They are used across the whole product: menus, lists, forms, detail pages, emails and PDF exports (report cards, attendance sheets, hour reports). A parent who receives a PDF sees coach and training, not teacher and course.

Going back to the standard words

A Reset to defaults button restores the standard Popinz wording for the language you are editing. Nothing else is affected: your people, groups, timetable and history are untouched — only the labels change back.

Good to know

  • Custom fields (extra information you define yourself) exist on people only — never on rooms or locations.
  • Renaming a word changes nothing in your data. It is a display setting, reversible at any moment.
